What is Authenticator verification and why should I use it?
Authenticator verification is a method used for Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), which provides an extra layer of security when logging in to your Nexon account.
When you enable Authenticator verification, you can use your choice of authentication apps, such as Google Authenticator, to generate a 6-digit, Time-based One-time Password (TOTP) code, which you enter after successfully entering your account ID and password.
Along with your login credentials, Authenticator verification helps prevent unauthorized access to your account.
Why isn't my authenticator code working?
Listed below are some of the most common reasons why an authenticator code may not work and what you can do.
- Typos
Ensure that the code looks correct (6 digits and no spaces), and then try entering it again. - Time outs
Authenticator codes are Time-based One-time Passwords (TOTPs). You have 30 seconds to enter a code, after which it expires and can no longer be used. Verify that you are entering the most recent code shown in the app. If it looks like the code is about to expire, try waiting for the next one to ensure that you have enough time. - Mixing up multiple accounts
If you have set up more than one account on the authenticator app, check that the code you are entering is for the Nexon account that you are trying to access. - Time sync issues
Authenticator codes can stop working if the app (like Google Authenticator) is syncing time incorrectly. To correct the time, sync the app’s time setting and/or reset your device’s time setting. How do I setup Authenticator verification?
After downloading the authenticator app of your choice, such as Google Authenticator, you need to enable Authenticator verification from your Account Settings. From the Password & Security tab, under Security and next to Authenticator App, click Enable, and then follow the on-screen instructions (see Setting Up Authenticator Verification).
How do I disable Authenticator verification?
You can disable Authenticator verification from your Account Settings. From the Password & Security tab, under Security and next to Authenticator App, click Disable, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Once you disable Authenticator verification, your Authenticator App account is deactivated. While you can enable Authenticator verification again at any time, you cannot reuse a deactivated Authenticator App account. Instead, you must add and activate a new one.
What do I do if I misplace my device?
If your 2FA device is temporarily unavailable, you can use a backup code in place of an Authenticator code (see How do I generate backup codes and How do I use backup codes).
However, if you have selected to login automatically via the Nexon Launcher, you can login to your account from the Launcher without your device and disable Authenticator verification until you find or replace your device (see How do I disable Authenticator verification).
You can also add your frequently used, private devices to the Trusted Devices list to automatically bypass 2FA verification for 60 days (see Managing Trusted Devices).
It is highly recommended that you change your account password if your device is ever out of your possession, even temporarily, to help keep your account secure.
How do I generate backup codes?
Backup codes are 8-digit, single-use codes that you can generate from your Account Settings. From the Password & Security tab, under Security, click Get Backup Codes, and then follow the on-screen instructions to generate and download a set of 10, single-use codes.
You can generate backup codes as often as you like, but doing so cancels all previously generated codes, even if they are unused (see Setting Up Authenticator Verification).
How do I use backup codes?
Backup codes are used in place of an Authenticator code should you not have access to your 2FA device. To use them, when prompted for an Authenticator code, select the Use another method option, click Backup code, and then enter an 8-digit code, without spaces.
Backup codes are single-use only, so after you use one, it cannot be used again (see Setting Up Authenticator Verification).
